Aw, thank you, heh I'm not nearly perfect to be honest though, I still make a lot of mistakes, the key is being objective though and looking at something and trying to figure out why it doesn't look right. But to answer your questions, I've been dolling since I was 13 so about 5 years ago is when I started. To be more accurate though, I don't really doll anymore or consider myself a doller. I like to think of myself as more of a pixel artist but in that respect I'm a huge newb XD The best way to find an attractive style is to look at other pixelists or even traditional artists and see how they do something or what makes their work attractive. Knowing basic art techniques also helps greatly. What propelled me from being a doller and into being a pixel artist is improving my traditional art skills and learning theory. Now, I'm actually being paid for my pixeling skills by various websites so as long as you work very hard, you can have that kind of skill.
